The first significant element of Adamstown’s infrastructure was opened by the then Taoiseach Bertie Ahern on 16th April 2009. The opening of the train station in advance of significant occupations in the homes surrounding was hailed as a significant turning point in the Irish Planning system and represented a departure from the traditional method of providing infrastructure after new residential communities become established.
The train station is located adjacent to the planned district centre in Adamstown (Adamstown Central) and is the lynchpin of the sustainable transport strategy for the town. The train station currently operates 17 services per day to and from Dublin Heuston Station.
Significant upgrades to the frequency of service on the line are under construction by Irish Rail with an anticipated completion date of early 2010.
